CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Local attorney and West Virginia native Olubunmi “Bunmi” Kusimo-Frazier has been named the 2025 Ms. Black West Virginia USA and will compete in the Ms. Division of the Miss Black USA pageant next year. The pageant commemorates the empowerment, beauty, and cultural identity of African-American women. Kusimo-Frazier is only the second Ms. Black West Virginia USA in the history of the program.

Kusimo-Frazier is an experienced and skilled litigator specializing in criminal defense, civil rights, and legal support for small businesses. In her 19 years as a lawyer, she has served as an assistant prosecuting attorney for Kanawha County and Jackson County, criminal defense and personal injury lawyer, Director of Magistrate Court Services at the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals and a corporate defense attorney. Kusimo-Frazier recently opened The Kusimo-Frazier Law Firm, PLLC in Charleston and has been providing legal services in the Mountain State.

As Ms. Black West Virginia USA, Kusimo-Frazier aims to raise awareness of the individual liberties of her fellow citizens and provide relevant and useful information surrounding the federal and local justice system, including conducting expungement clinics for those charged with and convicted of crimes, and sharing information regarding African-Americans in the criminal justice system. Her platform, Justice and Joy, focuses on empowering all individuals to prioritize their mental, physical, and emotional health.

Founded in 1987 by philanthropist and NAACP Image Award-winning Author Karen Arrington, the Miss Black USA Pageant celebrates Black women from across the nation. Additionally, the program is the largest provider of scholarships for Black women awarding over $750,000. The Ms. Black USA division allows women ages 28 to 45 to showcase their talents, achievements and contributions.
